What's the most important thing that happened to you this month?

Posted on Oct 31st, 2007 by Ted : Solution Multiplier Ted
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for October 31, 2007:

My wife was considering leaving me, and chose to commit to staying with me.

A close second is seeing all of human experience at the systems level, and a complex interaction of genetic and memetic influences, combined with the will and intuition.  And a realisation that all knowledge exists as a declaration in language.

It's been an interesting month.

all knowledge as declaration in language?…howzabout the ineffable?…you know, if it's ineffable, you cannot eff it…some stuff just cannot be spoken of…”whereof one cannot speak, thereof one should remain silent”…I agree that anything manifest in nature is cause-and-effect and therefore translatable into subject-predicate lingo…but there are transverbal experiences which lose their ability to be described and are frankly teflon at the highest levels of samadhi/nonduality…

Anyway, this philosophy yang bloke thing just blocks me from the more important yin observation that although I know zero about you Ted, from firsthand expreience, I believe it can be a highly courageous decision to remain in a relationship if the intent is to explore it with a view to enabling deeper authenticity in the relational space…good luck ter you and the missus…Jon xx

Life is a very interesting journey.
I have known more love and peace with Ailsa than I had even imagined possible prior to meeting her.

What is in the way for Ailsa is the fact that I am committed to a project that will alter how life occurs for most of humanity; and I have had very little success in communicating it to others effectively.  I think there is a combination of that being a challenge to looking good, and some other stuff that she is still carrying from her youth that sometimes surfaces and presents us with a challenge.

It probably doesn't help that have a tendency to poor communication, as I jump too many steps for others to follow easily - I often don't bother to explain the steps that are intuitively obvious to me.  That often comes out like a arrogance, and sometime arrogances is present.

In all that, I am very clear that I am very much in love with my girl (aka wife aka Ailsa).

Now to knowledge and the comment made by Jon.

I draw a distinction between knowledge and communication of that knowledge.

I agree with Jon's comments about the Teflon like attributes of some knowledge when it comes to communication; and that says volumes about the nature of communication.

It is clear to me that communication is only really possible when there is shared experience, which leads to shared understanding of the terms used.

This comes mostly from the way that brains produce labels.

When we generate a noun, we have a sort of “holographic primitive” that goes with that noun; and the application of that “primitive” to our memories quite literally stimulates all of the associated experience.

If the experience isn't there to be stimulated, then communication at some level is not possible.

Thus - when an individual finds themselves in possession of an experience that no one else that they try to communicate with has, one experiences the “Teflon” nature.  No matter how hard one tries, it doesn't stick - an essential element is missing.

As conscious entities, we exist in language.

We have experiences, which we interpret in language.

We have intuitions (patterns of association created by our brains as an artifact of the storage and retrieval of information as interference patterns - as in holography as an analogy).

For us to talk to ourselves about something, we must give it a label.  We do so with a declaration.  Most of those declarations are implicit - very few of us are consciously aware of these declarations, or of the impact they have upon us if they remain unexamined.

Every opinion, everything we know - has at it's root (in language) a declaration (usually related to an experience).

Knowledge space itself is infinite.  It is infinitely dimensional, and infinite within each of those dimensions.

To take an example.
We learn some labels for things - this ball, that ball, beach ball, tennis ball, …
After a while we get the idea of “shape”, as a distinction.
Within the distinction shape there are many possible shapes, balls, cubes, rectangles, ……
Within the distinction ball there are an infinite possible range of sizes, colours, textures, smells, …..

It may be the case that there are physical limits on the range of actual balls that will ever exist in this universe; and that does not limit the mind of an individual to the contemplation of only such things - the latter is infinite.

Each new distinction we make, both adds and takes away.
I believe it powerful for an individual to spend time both in the pursuit of distinctions, and in the experience of life without distinctions.

Each state has its own characteristics and power (I trust that is sufficiently non-Teflon).
