What, in your view, makes life meaningful?

This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for March 28, 2007:
What makes life meaningful is having the freedom and awareness to choose meaning.
The default state that we all start with is to accept or reject the meanings we are born into - family, language, culture, peers.
Once we distinguish that fact, then something else opens up - the opportunity to choose - moment by moment.
The journey through time.
The creative potential of the human mind (all human minds).
Exploration of the infinite knowledge-space.
Choosing actions which both make me feel good, and are of benefit to others.
Finding new ways of interpreting that which I perceive.
Meaning is derived from values, and values evolve as we explore new paradigms.
Some values seem to have utility in most paradigms - life, freedom, responsibility.
